Why Locals Love Frida Taqueria
Frida Taqueria, nestled in the heart of Waipahu, HI, is a vibrant Mexican restaurant that brings authentic burritos, tacos, and other traditional dishes to the local dining scene. With an inviting, intimate space and a friendly atmosphere, this eatery offers a genuine taste of Mexico infused with the fresh, island-inspired spirit of Hawaiʻi.
At Frida Taqueria, the menu is a celebration of bold, robust flavors and carefully crafted preparations. Their chimichangas stand out, particularly the Frida Chimichanga featuring steak and chorizo, served alongside rice, beans, sour cream, cheese, guacamole, and pico de gallo — a perfect balance of savory, creamy, and refreshing elements that dance on the palate. For those who prefer a lighter vegetarian twist, the Veggie Chimichanga delights with bell peppers, onions, melted cheese, and sour cream.
The enchiladas at Frida evoke true Mexican comfort. The Frida & Diego Enchilada offers a harmonious duo of beef and chicken, drenched in vibrant red and green sauces, paired with flavorful rice and beans — a dish elevated by its rich, nuanced sauces and fresh garnishes of lettuce and pico de gallo. The Shrimp Enchiladas provide a coastal flair, marrying tender seafood with classic Mexican ingredients.
For those craving traditional street-style fare, Frida’s Sopes and Huarache are must-tries, each generously topped with beans, cheese, lettuce, sour cream, queso fresco, and a slice of avocado, finished with a side of zesty green salsa. These dishes offer layers of texture and flavor, perfect for sharing or savoring solo.
Guests consistently praise the dedication and genuine care that goes into every dish. Reviewer Levi Hodges beautifully captures the essence of Frida with his experience of the Taco Supreme — “every bite reflected care, balance, and real technique.” The incorporation of fresh pico de gallo and guacamole atop steak and shrimp tacos, paired with house-made red and green habanero salsas, showcases Frida’s commitment to delivering vibrant, authentic flavors. And the meal’s satisfying finish — a smoothly executed flan — leaves a lasting impression of both comfort and sophistication.
The dining experience at Frida Taqueria is enhanced by attentive, welcoming service that makes every guest feel right at home. David Martinez’s glowing account of Vanessa’s warm hospitality perfectly reflects this; her professionalism and genuine hospitality elevated their meal into a memorable occasion.
Whether you’re looking for a quick, flavorful lunch or an intimate dinner filled with bold tastes and authentic Mexican flair, Frida Taqueria offers a sincere, satisfying escape from the ordinary. With each bite, you can feel the passion for food and culture that defines this Waipahu gem.

I ordered the Frida Taco Supreme — three tacos with steak and shrimp, topped with fresh pico de gallo and guacamole — and every bite reflected care, balance, and real technique. Paired with the red and green habanero salsas and finished with a smooth, well-executed flan, the meal was satisfying, properly portioned, and right on point for Hawaiʻi’s market. Frida’s Taqueria delivers quality, authenticity, and value without trying to be something it’s not. This isn’t Mexican food. It’s Mexican cuisine. And in Waipahu, Frida’s Taqueria is doing it right.

I was really in the mood for Mexican food, and as you guys know, it’s kind of hard to find a good place here on Oahu. So, while driving by, I noticed that the door to Frida’s was open, and I decided to give it a try. It’s a small place with just a few tables, but it’s very nice and clean. I ordered a super burrito with chicken, and I have to say that the taste was spot on, very similar to some family owned places on the mainland. The chicken meat kind of got lost in the rice and guacamole, so I recommended to the staff member that this menu item should be balanced out a little bit more with additional meat. I think for $17 or so, customers would expect more of the substance and less of the filler. Other than that, it was tasty and I will certainly go there again, especially since it’s relatively close to my home. I think their prices are reasonable and you do get quality food.

Frida’s catered my son’s rehearsal dinner and it was awesome!!! Not only was the food legit and delicious (opinion of Texan Mexicans!), but working with Anny was a joy. They were professional and friendly. Our wedding party couldn’t stop raving over the street tacos and tres leches (which had candied pearls and a slight cinnamon horchata taste). We hardly had any leftover! They also showed up to the minute of the time for delivery! You are missing out if you don’t try Frida’s!

Please Note: This review was written in 2022 and posted at Fridas Hawaii in Ewa by mistake. My apologies. It's a small little Mexican restaurant in Waipahu. Staff is very friendly. Food tastes really delicious. This is my third time coming to this restaurant. Their shrimp enchiladas were very tasty. It came with rice and beans. Portion size was a little small for what you pay for. My wife ordered the tostadas with hamburger, and it wasn't to my liking. Their hamburger mixture has peas in it in which I felt didn't match. The Birria tacos is amazing! This was the first time I've ever tried this. These tacos are very cilantro forward. If you're like me, where cilantro tastes like soap, I can tell you that these are delicious and don't taste like soap. The portion was small, in my opinion. I just wanted more! Esquites, which is their street corn, is very tasty, very creamy. The street tacos are very tiny. You can gobble them up in 1-2 bites. Fried ice cream is okay. Portion size is good for 2-3 to share. The banana loca is just amazing! I highly recommend this. It was just warm and flavorful, with a scoop of ice cream on top. It was perfect for my wife and I to share. Overall, I will be coming back here for more. On all visits, we spend an average of +$70 for two of us. Food is really tasty. Just portion size could be better.

We came here on a whim since we have patronized the other location in Ewa Beach. We came on a Sunday around 1 PM. There was only one other person in line with two customers eating. By the time we ordered there was a line out the door. It looks like they have their regular customers. My only complaint is the length of time before you get your food. Not sure if they were shortstaffed or it's normally like that but it seemed like an unusual amount of time we had to wait. They do have an outdoor area that they opened up for seating due to the amount of customers coming in. With that being said, the food was extremely delicious and flavorful. We will definitely come again but not if we are super starving and have to wait extremely long like 20 to 25 minutes. We'll be better prepared next time! They are on the pricier side but everything is pricey these days.

A very good little hole in the wall taqueria. Unfortunately, it is easy to miss as the signage is small. Slow down when navigation says you are near as it is easy to drive past it. The prechips' salsa were excellent. It was flavorful without too much heat. We were told there is a hotter version, but my wife declined as the current salsa was wonderful. The street tacos were good. The real treat for me was the Frida Chimichanga. I can't say what was in it as it was not listed on the menu. It did have shredded beef, which was tender and delicious. The menu is varied and reasonably priced. Take out seems to be their main source of business.

The shrimp taco is soooo delicious. The shrimp is tasty and the sauce in the taco is so good. I also added both salsas. I’m visiting and had to go twice just for this taco! The rest of my family raves about the Birria taco - so I’m assuming it’s yummy too!
